The current rules

Net Metering, Net Billing, and what changed in 2025

Under the old Net Metering scheme, your meter effectively ran backwards — every kWh you exported offset a kWh you later imported, at the same value. It was simple and generous, which is why it closed to new applicants in October 2025.

Net Billing is the scheme now. You're credited for surplus energy you export, but at the wholesale rate rather than the full retail rate. The kWh you consume directly from your own panels, however, are still worth the full retail price you'd otherwise pay EAC. That makes self-consumption — and storage — the key to strong returns.

Net Billing scales from homes right up to commercial systems of 8 MW, and Virtual Net Billing lets you offset consumption at a different meter from where the system is installed. We assess your situation, recommend the right approach, and handle the EAC and authority approvals end to end.

What you get

How we help you navigate the schemes

Scheme guidance

We explain Net Billing in plain terms for your specific bill and usage — no jargon, no guesswork.

Self-consumption strategy

We design your system to maximise the solar you use directly, where the value is highest under Net Billing.

Commercial & large-scale

Net Billing supports systems up to 8 MW — we handle commercial premises, agriculture, and industrial sites.

Virtual Net Billing

Offset consumption at a meter elsewhere from where the panels sit — ideal for split sites and businesses.

EAC approvals

We prepare and submit every EAC and authority application, and track it through to grid connection.

Honest payback maths

We model your real expected savings under the current rules — not an optimistic headline number.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

More questions? Our team is reachable on WhatsApp, by phone, or through our contact form.

Can I still get Net Metering?

No — Net Metering closed to new applications in October 2025. New residential and commercial installations now connect under Net Billing. If you already have Net Metering, your existing arrangement continues.

Is Net Billing still worth it?

Yes, especially when paired with self-consumption and storage. The electricity you use directly from your panels is worth the full retail price you'd otherwise pay EAC, and with peak tariffs rising, that value keeps growing.

What is Virtual Net Billing?

It lets you credit the solar generated at one location against consumption recorded at a different meter — useful when the best roof for panels isn't the property drawing the most power.

How big a system can I install?

Net Billing supports systems from small residential arrays up to 8 MW for large commercial and industrial consumers. We size yours to your consumption and your available roof or land.
